Are You Getting Frequent Headaches?

Some estimates suggest 25% of the population has a headache right now!  So, if you are getting frequent headaches you are not alone.

People often think headaches are caused by stress or hormones, but often times the cause of the headache is actually structural, coming from the neck.  These days everyone I look at seems to be staring down at their phone, texting or just staring at it.  But, what you will notice is that they are usually looking down and staying in that position for long periods of time.

When you look down like that for a long time, you are in a loosing battle with gravity.  The average human head weighs about 14 pounds, so its like holding up a bowling ball and the more you look down, the heavier it gets and the more the muscles on the back side are getting worn out.  This can lead to misalignment of the upper neck bones, or what chiropractors call a subluxation, which can in turn trigger the headaches.

Headaches that start at the back of the head on top of the neck will often generate a trigger point pattern that can move the headache like a band up over the head to the area behind the eyes.  Another possible culprit is the tmj joint.  If the jaw is involved it will often create a headache on the sides of the head, or the temple area.

So, when the bones are misaligned or they loose there normal position and movement, they cause the muscles to tighten up which compresses the nerves and blood vessels in the area.  This can trigger the headaches you are having.  This is easy to correct with an adjustment, but most people don’t realize it is coming from an issue with the bones.

The common treatment is to medicate the pain, but this does not fix anything.  You are just treating a symptom and not fixing the cause of the pain in the first place.  Keep in mind that your headache is not due to a lack of ibuprofen or aspirin!

Specific chiropractic adjustments will correct any misalignment or lack of movement that may be triggering the headaches.  It is a simple procedure that only takes minutes, but the effects are long lasting and will fix the actual cause of the headache rather than just attempting to suppress the symptoms.

We will also work to educate you on what you may be doing to cause the issue in the first place, such as looking down to much.  Sometimes it is something as simple as changing your sleeping position or pillow.  Sometimes it is changing your ergonomics at work.

Walk-in to The Fix Chiropractic and let us get you on the path to erasing your headaches.  We will evaluate where they are coming from, be it your neck, or your jaw, or something else.  You will be carefully checked to determine the source and we will work to clear the issue and educate you how to stay healthy once the problem is identified and fixed.  Stop in anytime!
